About My Lessons

My approach to teaching bass guitar is to keep the process fun and rewarding.

Whilst exercises for developing technique is crucial, my lessons are very much song-focused.

Prior to our first lesson I’ll ask you to tell me your 5 favourite artists/bands. This gives me a chance to scour through their material and find songs for you to learn.

During your journey to becoming a bassist you’ll be learning how to play the basslines of your favourite music.

This keeps the process fun so you actually stick to it — no dry, prescribed set-pieces from an exam paper, just music you actually want to play.

Bass was my first instrument, not guitar. I know exactly what it's like to stare at those four strings for the first time with no idea where to start. I was there too.

Let me guide you - from beginner to bassist, one step at a time.

About Me!

Hello! My name is Sam.

I’ve been a bassist for over a decade and I am increadibly passionate about sharing my skills and knowledge with the next generation of bass players.

I still remember being 15 years old and picking up the bass guitar in a last-ditch effort to pass a practical music for my Junior Cert. What started as a hasty decision quickly became the start of a life changing journey.

To suddenly find a passion in something so creative and expressive was amazing - an experience I would love to help others discover.

Now I experience the music world in real-time as I love to bounce around the Dublin music scene playing gigs, writing songs and learning more about music everyday.

I am a student of music as much as I ever have been which is an attitude I hope to pass on to my students.

Frequently Asked Questions

What equipment do I need to bring?
All you need to bring is your own bass guitar. If you don’t have one yet I can point you toward great starter kits that’ll provide you everything you need to get playing.

How long are lessons?
Lessons by default are an hour long but it’s entirely up to you. Under 12s lessons are 45 minutes but can be extended/shortened if need be.

What if I am late to a lesson?
If you’re late the lesson will still end at the arranged time.

What if I need to cancel or reschedule a lesson?
Just let me know as soon as you can!
If you’ve paid for a bundle of lessons we can just move the lesson to another day.

I've never played an instrument before — is that okay?
Completely. My lessons are built specifically for complete beginners, whether that's a child trying it for the first time or an adult finally getting round to it.

How often should I have lessons?
Lessons will be spaced out by a week to give you time to practice. If you’d like to take lessons every fortnight that’s perfectly fine - whatever suits you.

Do you teach exams or grades
(e.g. RIM, Trinity)?
My lessons focus on getting you playing real songs you love, rather than exam preperation. If formal grades are something you’re interested in down the line, we can talk about it, but it’s not the main focus of what I teach.

What age groups do you teach?
All ages — I run a dedicated Kids Course for under 12s, and beginner-focused lessons for teens and adults too.

Do you teach other instruments?
No - bass is my sole focus. Bass was my first instrument, so I teach from real beginner experience on bass specifically, rather than treating it as a side skill alongside another instrument. If you’re looking to learn guitar, piano or something else I’m happy to point you toward other tutors.
